日本製品コーナー  ・  第四

10/28/11   –   10:53

Sorry for the delay in Seihin Corner posts. For a while there I wasn’t really buying anything new/worth reviewing and then I did and a whole bunch piled up and then I didn’t have time to write an entry about them and enough excuses.

We’re back.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First up,
Product: ピザまん [pizaman]
Price: 105円
Description: A bun based off of the original Chinese 包子,but instead of meat filling, the culinary masters at 7-11 have decided to make the insides taste like pizza… Er… “pizza.”
Pros: Price! Lunch for 105 yen? Yes ma’am. Things that don’t taste inherently Japanese.
Cons: Things that don’t taste inherently like pizza. The inside is filled with tomato sauce and … corn. Corn. Italians would be driven to tears.
Rating: 5/10
Product: Skal Mango Cream Soda
Price: 100円
Description: Mango Cream Soda obtained from a typical vending machine. Well actually, I haven’t seen these around Hirakata, but when I went to Toyonaka for Carillon practice, I bought this on the way there.
Pros: As a Filipino, I am predisposed to like mango. I think they based the flavor of this mango off of the Philippine variety and I think that’s really sweet. [See what I did there?] I don’t really like cream soda but this one was not offensive.
Cons: Bad puns. Only 1% fruit juice. A little bit heavy and not as refreshing as it claimed to be. That stuff on the bottom says: “Dairy derived carbonic acid drink” I.. I don’t even know.
Rating: 6/10
Product: 130% アップルジュース [130% Apple Juice]
Price: 126円
Description: This drink claims that it contains more than 100% apple juice. The description on the side said that the apple juice was evaporated or something, resulting in a stronger flavor.
Pro: Fresh-tasting. I love the taste of Japanese apples. I feel like they’re how apples are supposed to taste like.
Con: Defying mathematics. This woman on the front of the box is both questionably Japanese and questionably enjoying this drink. Thus, I am left with a feeling of uncertainty while drinking.
Rating: 7/10
Product: Umbrella
Price: [?] Host-mom provided it
Description: An umbrella to keep you from getting wet in the rain. But… this one opens backwards. You’re going to have to look at the picture to understand because I’m not sure how to explain it. It’ s just. Backwards.
Pro: When the umbrella gets wet and you fold it back up, the outside is not wet because the outer layer is now on the inside.
Con: It took me so long to figure out how to open the damn thing that I got soaked anyway.
Rating: 3/10 the first time you use it. 8/10 every subsequent time.
Product: はちみつレモン
Price: 120円
Description: Honey-lemon drink. Basically super-sweetened lemonade.
Pro: The advertisement on television is about some bears in a national park. They retire to their log cabin and refresh themselves with this drink. It’s sort of cute.
Con:  Maybe a little too sweet, but overall not too bad.
Description: 6/10
Product: いろはすみかん
Price: 126円
Description: Mikan-flavored water.
Pro: I love mikan. It is basically my favorite fruit [next to mango and pineapple]. The flavoring is light and not over-powering. Also, this picture I took of the bottle is pretty awesome.
Con: I’d like it if it were 20 yen cheaper.
Rating: 8/10
Product: ファンタりんご ・ 日本の果実
Price: 136円
Description: Fanta is having a promotion in Japan where they showcase “Japanese fruits.” Last month’s was peach, as reviewed before. The third one in the set is apple!
Pro: I rub appurs. Fanta is fanta is fanta and japanese Aomori Apple Fanta is great.
Con: I can’t remember if I had apple fanta in Europe >_> It alters the sense of novelty. Also this is expensive.
Rating: 7/10
Product: Teagurt
Price: 110円
Description: An infusion of red tea and yogurt and peach flavoring. Peach yogurt and red tea? Peach tea and yogurt? The world may never know.
Pro: The most clever and creative title in the world. [-_-]
Con: It’s not 0-calorie, but there is a strange bitterness afterwards that tastes like there’s artificial sweetener in it…
Rating: 4.5/10 I like peach yogurt but I would probably not buy again.
